Sri Lanka is a captivating country with a great variety of interests for the traveller - tropical beaches, culture, monuments, adventure and much more.This natural paradise offers outstanding ancient Buddhist complexes, walks in national parks and wide-open plains, while the south coast offers idyllic palmfringed beaches. An early highlight of our trip is a visit to the ancient sites of Mihintale and Polonnaruwa.We take a safari to see wild elephants in Minneriya National Park and then head south after visiting Sigiriya where we climb the Lion Rock - the ancient citadel balanced on sheer rock faces, with its famous fresco gallery of beautiful women. Continuing our journey we discover the temple complex of Dambulla at the southern end of the village. Continuing on to the hill capital of Kandy we visit the famous elephant orphanage and then drive to Horton Plains, Sri Lanka’s most isolated plateau. The scenery here is breathtakingly beautiful. Leaving hill country we have one final adventure - two days canoeing down the Kaluganga, one of Sri Lanka's main rivers - before relaxing on the white sandy beaches at Bentota.Take in some watersports or simply kick back and enjoy the sun.
