Accommodation

14 nights accommodation – 1 night Lima Pre-Tour package, 9 nights in comfortable tourist class hotels and guesthouses, 3 nights camping on the Inca Trail, 1 night local home stay.

Viva Expeditions aims to maximize your comfort throughout your journey with us. We use only good tourist class hotels and guest houses that are centrally located with ensuite bathroom facilities and good guest services.

Camping on the Inca trail is fully serviced however according to Inca trail regulations the tents are relatively small and basic. Bedding is provided and there is also a larger tent which is used as a dining tent and area to sit and socialize. Accommodation on the overnight home stay is basic but clean and comfortable and all rooms have been certified by the regional tourism board.

Kitty Notes

Local Payment is paid in cash to your tour leader on the first day of your tour in South America. It is part of your overall tour cost and is the easiest and most economical way for us to get hard currency to South America to help run your trip. It goes toward a variety of day to day local costs which cannot be pre-paid such as locally organised activities and meals at restaurants. Paying this money locally ensures tour leaders have a supply of money, as access to banking facilities can, at times be limited.

Itineraries (Lima - La Paz)

Day 1- 2
Lima Pre-Tour Package - Upon arrival into Lima you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel located in the lovely Miraflores area. The following morning enjoy a half day tour of modern & colonial Lima. In the afternoon you will be transferred to the airport in time for your flight to Cusco where you will join your Viva Expeditions escorted group tour.

Day 2 – 5
Viva Expeditions Escorted Group Tour - Cusco, the archaeological capital of the Americas, is our base to explore the Inca culture and the famous ruins of Machu Picchu. Not only is Cusco stepped in history, tradition and legend, it is also full of great restaurants, lively plazas, art galleries, cathedrals and museums. After ample time to explore Cusco, and acclimatise to the altitude (3,300 m) we head off into the Sacred Valley of the Incas to visit the colonial village of Pisac, famous for its lively market and the massive Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo.

Day 6 – 9
Beginning the famous Inca Trail Trek we head along the Urubamba River, up through valleys and over mountain passes as we wind our way through spectacular cloud forest to reach the ancient Inca Ruins of Machu Picchu. Following the footsteps of the ancient Incas you will be amazed and intrigued to learn from your expert guide all there is to know about this mysterious race. On the morning of the fourth day we will arrive at the Inca Sun Gate and you will be rewarded with your first view of the magnificent lost city of the Incas, Machu Picchu. Enjoy a guided tour of the ruins and some time at leisure before returning to Cusco.


Day 10 – 15
We drive south across the Andean plains, where Vacuna and Alpaca roam, to arrive on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Take an overnight trip out on to the lake where we will visit the Islas Uros, where the Uros Indians have made their home on floating reed islands. Arriving to Amantani Island we will enjoy an overnight home stay with a friendly local family and the opportunity to be welcomed into their homes and truly experience their traditional way of life.
Visit Taquile Island, famous for its traditional handicrafts and isolated way of life before leaving Peru and cross into La Paz, Bolivia, our final destination.

Itineraries ( La Paz - Lima)

Day 1 – 4
Viva Expeditions Escorted Group Tour - Our tour commences in the cultural city of La Paz, located in the highlands of Bolivia. We cross the border into Peru and arrive on the shores of Lake Titicaca where we take an overnight trip out on to the lake to visit the Islas Uros, where the Uros Indians have made their home for centuries on floating reed islands. Arriving to Amantani Island we will enjoy an overnight home stay with a friendly local family and the opportunity to be welcomed into their homes and truly experience their traditional way of life. Visit Taquile Island, famous for its traditional handicrafts, before we make our way back across the lake to the town of Puno.

Day 5 – 8

Lima Post-Tour Package – From Cusco you will take a short flight to Lima, the colonial capital of Peru. Upon arrival into Lima you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel located in the lovely Miraflores area. Enjoy a half day tour of modern & colonial Lima before departing Peru at the end of an exhilarating and unforgettable Inca adventure.
