Moghul Highlights - Overland Expedition

Intro

Northern India is awash with the legacies left behind by the glorious Moghul (Mughal) Empire, from mosques and forts to mausoleums and magnificent royal gardens. This short option of our \'North India Experience\' tour provides for an ideal introduction to an area known as India\'s \'Golden Triangle\'. From the capital, Delhi, to outpost Rajasthani trading towns, the influences from this bygone era can be seen everywhere. Delhi, Jaipur and Agra form the actual \'Golden Triangle\', but we also go off-the-beaten-track and stay in an old haveli, a village of \'mud huts\' and the palace of a maharaja. We get a taste of nature with a visit to the bird sanctuary at Bharatpur and a wildlife safari in Ranthambore National Park, before we end up at the piece de resistance - the Taj Mahal.

Itineraries ( - )

Day 1

(Sun) Arrive in Delhi and transfer to hotel. Afternoon city tour.

Day 2

Drive to the ancient trading town of Shekhavati. Admire fine havelis (courtyard homes) and flamboyant frescoes. Overnight in heritage hotel.

Day 3

Camel ride to surrounding villages and overnight in mud-brick huts in the Desert Resort.

Day 4

Drive to the 'Pink City' of Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, and visit the splendid Amber Fort.

Day 5

Morning tour of the City Palace and the mystical Palace of the Winds.

Day 6

Drive to Ranthambore National Park for afternoon safari in search of tiger.

Day 7-8

Drive to Karauli and stay at the elegant Bhanwar Vilas Palace, where His Highness, Krishna Chandra Pal, often joins his guests.

Day 9

Drive to Agra, en route visiting the Keoladeo Ghana Bird Sanctuary at Bharatpur and the evocative Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri.

Day 10

Visit the Taj Mahal before returning to Delhi by evening express train. Overnight in Delhi.

Day 11

Trip finishes in Delhi this morning (Tue).
