Continue climb to Horombo Hut. A steep, sometimes wet, 20 minute walk through the upper part of the rainforest, followed by a 2km section of tall giant heather interspersed with large clumps of tussock grass. The vegetation then changes to stunted clumps of heather and ‘everlasting’ flowers. Lobelias and groundsel occupy the wetter areas. (5 hours climbing) (BLD)

Day 7,UHURU PEAK (5,895m)

The final ascent starts around midnight or in the early hours of the morning. The most demanding ascent of the trek is the slow walk up increasingly steep scree to Gillman's Point (5,690m), 4-5 hours. Then continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, 1-2 hours. A spectacular sunrise with Africa laid out at our feet will make all the hard work worthwhile! Descend to Horombo Hut for a well-earned rest. (BLD)
