Day 1,NAIROBIArrival day.
Day 2,NAIROBI - MOSHIEarly morning shuttle bus across the Tanzanian border to Moshi, arriving in the afternoon. There will be a briefing on our trek this evening. (BD)
Day 3,KILI TREK - MANDARA (2,725m)After breakfast transfer to Marangu gate. Commence trekking through beautiful rainforest to Mandara Hut. 4 hours walking. (BLD)
Day 4,HOROMBO HUT (3,700m)A steep, sometimes wet, 20 minute walk through the upper part of the rainforest, followed by a 2km section of tall giant heather interspersed with large clumps of tussock grass. The vegetation then changes to stunted clumps of heather and ‘everlasting’ flowers. Lobelias and groundsel occupy the wetter areas. 5 hours climbing. (BLD)
Day 5,HOROMBOA day for acclimatisation with a walk to Point Mawenzi (4,600m). Return to Horombo Hut for the night. (BLD)
Day 6,KIBO HUT (4,700m)Continue climb to Kibo Hut. The path traverses west, before turning northwards towards a col between Middle Red Hill and the Triplets. It then turns west for the final 3km to Kibo hut. You will be walking for most of the day, and altitude gain will be felt with shallow breathing and some tiredness overnight. 7-8 hours climbing. Day 7,UHURU PEAK (5,895m)The final ascent starts around midnight or in the early hours of the morning. The most demanding ascent of the trek is the slow walk up increasingly steep scree to Gillman's Point (5,690m) 4-5 hours. Then continue to Uhuru Peak, 1-2 hours, the highest point in Africa. A spectacular sunrise with Africa laid out at our feet will make all the hard work worthwhile! Descend to Horombo Hut for a well-earned rest. (BLD)
Day 8,MOSHIDescend to the park gate and transfer to our Moshi hotel for the night. (BLD)
Day 9,ARUSHA – ZANZIBARYou travel from Moshi to Arusha and from there fly to Zanzibar, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Stone Town, the historic capital of this enchanting island. You have time to explore the old town, a fascinating warren of streets with some intriguing architecture and a tangible sense of history. (B)
Day 10 to Day 12,ZANZIBARLeaving Stone Town behind, you are transferred to Zanzibar’s gorgeous coastline where your days are free to relax or take part in any of the many optional activities available here. (B)
Day 13,DAR ES SALAAMToday you are transferred to the airport for your flight to Dar es Salaam, where the tour ends on arrival. (B)
