Intro

Tanzania has two icons – the Serengeti and Kilimanjaro. This incredible combination of our A combination of our Kilimanjaro Trek and our Tanzania Explorer Safari’ takes you to the ice-caps of Africa’s highest mountain and down to the rolling plains of the Serengeti where the largest migration of mammals takes place on earth! You then have a chance to explore the Ngorongoro Crater, a large extinct volcano that is a self-contained park known to be home to the ‘Big Five’.

Itineraries

Day 1,NAIROBI

Arrival day.

Day 2,NAIROBI - MOSHI

Early morning shuttle bus across the Tanzanian border to Moshi, arriving in the afternoon. There will be a briefing on our trek this evening. (BD)

Day 3,KILI TREK - MANDARA (2,725m)

After breakfast transfer to Marangu gate. Commence trekking through beautiful rainforest to Mandara Hut. (BLD)

Day 4,HOROMBO HUT (3,700m)

Continue our climb to Horombo Hut. Leaving the rainforest, the vegetation will change to stunted clumps of heather, 'everlasting' flowers and short tussock grasses. (BLD)

Day 5,HOROMBO

A day for acclimatisation with a walk to Point Mawenzi (4,600m). Return to Horombo Hut for the night. (BLD)

Day 6,KIBO HUT (4,700m)

Set off early and continue up to the dry and rugged saddle area between the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo. Overnight at Kibo Hut. (BLD)

Day 7,UHURU PEAK (5,895m)

The final ascent starts around midnight or in the early hours of the morning. The most demanding ascent of the trek is the slow walk up increasingly steep scree to Gillman's Point (5,690m). Then continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. A spectacular sunrise with Africa laid out at our feet will make all the hard work worthwhile! Descend to Horombo Hut for a well-earned rest. Day 8,MOSHI

Descend to the park gate and transfer to our Moshi hotel for the night. (BLD)

Day 9,MOSHI TO ARUSHA

Take the public shuttle bus to Arusha, where the rest of the day is free. (B)

Day 10,NGORONGORO CRATER

Drive to Ngorongoro Crater, passing through lush highlands. Upon arrival there may be time to visit a nearby Masai village. (BLD)

Day 11,NGORONGORO CRATER

The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the natural wonders of the world. A large extinct volcano, with an area of 259 km2, it is a self-contained park with a huge variety of game and birdlife. Game viewing is almost guaranteed to provide the 'Big Five' and we spend time in the crater caldera on game drives, with a picnic lunch. (BLD)

Day 12,SERENGETI

Drive to the Serengeti via Olduvai Gorge. On arrival in the park we will take a game drive en route to our campsite. (BLD)

Day 13,SERENGETI

The Serengeti is unequalled for its natural beauty and contains more than 3 million large mammals all spread over the endless plains. We take morning and afternoon game drives, trying to spot the fantastic array of creatures that live here. (BLD)

Day 14,MTO WA MBU

After a final game drive in the Serengeti, we drive to Mto Wa Mbu. Upon arrival there may be time for an optional walk to nearby waterfalls. (BLD)

Day 15,LAKE MANYARA - ARUSHA

One of Tanzania's most diverse parks, the combination of lakes, woodlands and mountains in Lake Manyara make for superb game and bird viewing. The park is home to large herds of elephants and is also known for its tree climbing lions. We take a game drive here before returning to Arusha. (BL)

Day 16,ARUSHA - NAIROBI

Take the morning public shuttle bus from Arusha to Nairobi, arriving early afternoon. Tour ends upon arrival. (B)
