Uganda Teaching & Building - 42 days - Overland Trip

6 weeks: Entebbe to Entebbe (IN-YMH)

Build infrastructure to support the community\'s needs, Teach in a rural school, Visit the source of the Mighty White Nile, Experience Ugandan village life, Make local friends, Join like-minded travellers to work as a team, Make a Difference

Join a group of like-minded volunteers to experience and contribute to daily life in a rural village. Working in partnership with grassroots NGOs in the area, this 42 day project focuses on primary education. Schools are over-crowded and lack proper facilities as there is no government funding to add new classrooms putting the burden on the community and parents. Split your time between a building project and teaching at a local school. Working alongside local builders, staying in the community and spending time with the kids, you\'ll become an essential part of the community. Take part in a unique experience where you can really make a difference to a Ugandan community.

Itineraries (Entebbe - Entebbe)

Day 1 Entebbe/Rural Project

After meeting with your group for the first time, swap the busy streets of Entebbe for the rural roads of the countryside. Catch glimpses the majestic White Nile and Lake Victoria on the way. Your new home is in a village not far from Jinja and you'll be welcomed there by community representatives.

Day 2 Village

Don't forget to take a photo of the building site as you explore the village - it won't look like this for long!

Days 3-14 Teaching and Building

Spend your days swapping between building and teaching at the school. Take time out to munch of fresh local fruit, chat with the foreman to learn some of the local lingo and spend your afternoons relaxing or exploring the surrounding valleys and banana plantations.

Days 15-27 Cultural Development

As you get to know the community and its needs, there's time to create side projects. Play sports with the kids or join the adults in their cooperative groups, teaching them English or learning traditional dances and weaving. After getting to know the community you may find a need for AIDs education, a recycling program or even art classes.

Days 28-41 Local Expert

The building will really be coming along now and you will really feel a part of the local community. Take the time to visit the families of those you work alongside and be sure to spend time playing with the kids you teach during the day.

Day 42 Entebbe

Your project is now over and it's time to celebrate your hard work and new friendships before returning to Entebbe.
