Intro

The Sierra Nevada and their foothills the Alpujarra represent a part of Spain that could not be further from the conventional image. Travel away from the hordes to the little visited but stunningly beautiful villages on the edge of the spectacular Sierra Nevada Park Natural. Spend your days walking in tranquil valleys, through picturesque whitewashed villages, sampling the local produce of wines, hams and cheeses, while enjoying a timeless way of life.

Itineraries

Day 1, MALAGA - TREVELEZ

Arrival in Malaga where youll be met and transferred to the village of Trevelez. At 1,550m this is the highest village in Spain and our base for the week.

Day 2, TREVELEZ

Walk out of the village along a beautiful path beside the river, climbing gently towards its source. The fast-flowing river is made up entirely from snow melt, dashing its way over smooth rocks down the glaciated valley. (B)

Day 3, TREVELEZ - JUVILES

Spend some time in the lower part of Trevelez before walking to the delightful village of Juviles. Don't be surprised if we encounter shepherds with their flocks using the same paths. Relax with a beer and tapas before exploring the village prior to returning to Trevelez. (B)

Day 4, GRANADA

We have the opportunity to make an excursion to the fascinating city of Granada and visit the Alhambra, perhaps the greatest of all Moorish monuments in Andalucia. (B)

Day 5, TREVELEZ - PORTUGOS

Walking out of the village we wend our way through pine forests, crossing flood gorges and gently making our way to the picturesque village of Portugos where we discover a beautifully renovated church in a traditional Alpujarran village. (B)

Day 6, TREVELEZ - PENABON

Today we climb to the nearby peak of Penabon affording us magnificent views of the valley below and much of the Alpujarra and Sierra Nevada range. (B)

Day 7, POQUIERA GORGE

We take an excursion to the beautiful villages of Pampaneira, Bubion and Capalleira, situated within the spectacular Poquiera Gorge. We have time to explore the narrow streets and relax in some of the local bars to enjoy the excellent tapas on offer. (B)

Day 8, MALAGA

Today you are transferred back to Malaga for your onward flight. (B)
