Itineraries

Day 1,CAPE TOWN

Arrive in Cape Town where the rest of the day is free to explore.

Day 2,CITRUSDAL

Drive to Citrusdal, where we can take short hikes or swim in the hot springs.(BL).

Day 3,GARIEP RIVER (formerly Orange River)

Drive to Gariep River where the rest of the day is free to explore. There are a range of optional activities such as river walks and canoe trips. (BLD)

Day 4,FISH RIVER CANYON

Crossing the border into Namibia we head for the awesome Fish River Canyon. There will be ample time to take in a beautiful sunset over the canyon, or to relax by the pool. (BL)

Day 5 to Day 6,NAMIB NAUKLUFT NATIONAL PARK

Continue to Namib Naukluft National Park and the giant sand dunes of Sossusvlei. This is one of the world's oldest deserts, over 130 million years of natural wonder, and the highest sand dunes in the world. Climb the dunes for an unforgettable sunrise. There is also time to explore the nearby Sesriem Canyon. (BLD)

Day 7 to Day 8,SWAKOPMUND

Swakopmund is a Bavarian-style town, situated snugly between sea and desert. Great beaches, plus an array of shops, bars and restaurants await you. Free time to explore at your leisure or try the many optional activities. (Day 7 - BL, Day 8 - B)

Day 9 to Day 10,ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK

We journey via granite moonscape to Etosha National Park where we camp ready for our big game safari experience. Dominated by shimmering white saltpans you have a chance to see elephant here as well as black rhino, lion and leopard. All camps have floodlit water holes, which are excellent for after dinner game viewing. During our stay in Etosha we make 3 game drives into the Park. (Day 9 - BLD, Day 10 - BL)

Day 11,WATERBERG PLATEAU NATIONAL PARK

The Waterberg Plateau National Park is historically significant because it was the site of the war between the Germans and the Hereros. The area has now become a haven for many endangered species. It is renowned for its incredible rock formations and walks. (BLD)

Day 12,GOBABIS

Travelling to Gobabis, near the border between Namibia and Botswana, we spend the night on a private game farm. (BL)

Day 13,MAUN

Cross into Botswana and head for Maun, the gateway to the fantastic Okavango Delta. Here we make preparations for our expedition into the Delta. (BL)

Day 14 to Day 15,OKAVANGO DELTA - MOKORO SAFARI

Transfer into the delta where we meet our mokoro and polers. The delta is an incredible maze of inland waterways and lagoons, a haven for wildlife and birds. We will be taken on game walks by our guides to experience the full splendour of the delta. (BLD)

Day 16,NATA

After breakfast we are returned to our vehicle and transferred to our campsite at Nata. (BLD)

Day 17,CHOBE NATIONAL PARK

We depart Maun for Kasane and our camp on the banks of the Chobe River, arriving in time for a game viewing cruise on the Chobe River. (BL)

Day 18 to Day 20,VICTORIA FALLS

A short drive from Chobe takes us to the spectacular Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. You are free to explore it at your leisure. Take a “sundowner” cruise or enjoy hoards of other adventure activities. Our camp is close to all the bars, restaurants and hot spots. (Day 18 – BLD, Days 19 & 20 – B) Due to UK Foreign Office advice against travel to Zimbabwe all 2008 tours will now be staying in Livingstone, Zambia and do not visit Zimbabwe. Please note: Entrance fees to Victoria Falls are not included in the cost of this tour. Travellers may wish to visit either the Zimbabwean or Zambian side of the Falls - the Zimbabwean side is said to have a better view of the main cascade. At the time of writing, entry to the Falls in both countries costs US$30 per person.

Day 21,LUSAKA

We depart early for the capital Lusaka and camp on the outskirts of the city in a privately-owned rest camp. (BLD)

Day 22,BUSH CAMP

We proceed through pristine African bush to our bush camp in a rural village – a fantastic way to catch a glimpse of rural African life. We choose our stops very carefully in conjunction with the chiefs of each village. (BLD)

Day 23 to Day 24,SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK

Heading north we visit the impressive South Luangwa National Park, one of Africa's finest parks. We make two game drives into the park, one of them in the evening and we will make use of a spotlight to track down nocturnal species such as leopard and spotted genets.(Day 23 – BL, Day 24 – BLD)

Day 25,LAKE MALAWI - SENGA BAY

Cross the border into Malawi, known as the warm heart of Africa. You will have a chance to meet the locals when we visit the lakeshore fishing villages. We travel up the lake stopping at carefully selected camps. There will be ample time at Senga Bay to relax and explore, and try the many optional lake activities. (BLD)

Day 26 to Day 27,LAKE MALAWI – CHINTECHE

Our journey continues up the lake to beautiful Chinteche, where we camp close to the shoreline. (Day 26 – BLD, Day 27 – BL)

Day 28,LAKE MALAWI – CHIWETA

We travel through the town of Mzuzu to a rustic camp on the lakeshore set amongst baobab trees. (BLD)

Day 29,KIZOLONZA

Crossing the border into Tanzania we journey through changing landscape to our camp near the Ruaha River, where a local community project has been established with the Maasai tribespeople. (BLD)

Day 30,DAR ES SALAAM

We proceed to Dar es Salaam and our camp on the beach, where we prepare for our trip to fabulous Zanzibar. (BL)

Day 31 to Day 33,ZANZIBAR

Early morning departure to the harbour where you will catch the ferry over to Zanzibar. The little Indian Ocean island is a cultural melting pot of African, Arabic and Indian cultures, renowned for its spices. We have two full days to explore this island with its turquoise waters and beautiful palm-fringed beaches. (B)

Day 34,DAR ES SALAAM

We return to Dar es Salaam and our beach camp. (BD)

Day 35,ARUSHA

Arusha is a fairly developed town, known as the safari capital of Tanzania. Upon arrival at our camp in Arusha we start preparations for our excursion into the Serengeti and Ngorongoro National Parks. (BLD)

Day 36 to Day 38,SERENGETI NP AND NGORONGORO CRATER

Starting early we head for the Serengeti National Park, with game viewing en route. The Serengeti National Park is famous for the great wildebeest migrations. The following morning we do an early morning game drive in the Serengeti and after lunch head for the Ngorongoro Crater, the largest unbroken caldera in the world. It is home to 25,000 larger mammals and 100 species of bird. The next day we will do a morning tour of the crater and then return to Arusha in the afternoon. (Days 36 & 37 – BLD, Day 38 – BL)

Day 39,NAIROBI

We cross the border into Kenya and head straight to Nairobi. (BL)

Day 40,NAIROBI

Tour ends after breakfast. (B)
