Intro

Beginning at the beautiful city of Cape Town, this journey takes us through the stark compelling beauty of Namibia, with its endless horizons and vast expanses of night stars, and Botswana with its abundant wildlife. Finally we’ll end up at that most thrilling of natural wonders, the mighty Victoria Falls.

Onward flights from Livingstone or Victoria Falls to Johannesburg are easy to book - you should speak to your booking agent at the time of booking if you require these.

Single supplements on this tour are compulsory for individual travellers or odd-numbered groups. Groups with an odd number of travellers will incur one single supplement charge for the whole group.

Itineraries

Day 1,CAPE TOWN

Arrive and check into your hotel. Free day to explore. Discover the different aspects of this exciting city by taking a trip to Robbin Island or a tour of the Peninsula.

Day 2,CITRUSDAL

Drive to Citrusdal, where we can take short hikes or swim in the hot springs. (B)

Day 3 to Day 4,THE FISH RIVER CANYON

Cross the border into Namibia and head for the awesome Fish River Canyon. The canyon is one of the most staggering sights in Africa, and second in size only to the Grand Canyon of the United States. We have the opportunity to take a walk along the edge. (BL)

Day 5 to Day 6,THE NAMIB NAUKLUFT NATIONAL PARK

Continue to the Namib Naukluft N.P. and the giant sand dunes of Sossusvlei - the highest in the world. On day 6 we rise early to climb the dunes for fantastic views, after which we proceed on to Sossusvlei and take a 5km walk to the vlei. (BL)

Day 7 to Day 8,SWAKOPMUND

We spend two nights in Swakopmund, a delightful Bavarian-style town situated snugly between sea and desert. There are plenty of activities to keep you occupied here, from deep sea fishing to dolphin watching tours, or perhaps visiting a local township for some cultural interaction. (B)

Day 9 to Day 10,ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK

Journey to the world famous Etosha N.P. where we have the chance to see elephant, black rhino, lion and leopard. (Day 9 - BLD, Day 10 - BL)

Day 11,WATERBERG PLATEAU NATIONAL PARK

Leave Etosha bound for the stunning Waterberg Plateau N.P., a haven for many endangered species. (BL)

Day 12,GOBABIS

Travel towards the border with Botswana. We stay near Gobabis on a private game farm, dedicated to the protection of big cats. We should have excellent opportunities for seeing lion, leopard and cheetah up close. (BL)

Day 13,MAUN

Early departure for the border crossing to Botswana. We head for Maun, the gateway to the amazing Okavango Delta. Here we make preparations for our expedition into the Delta. (BL)

Day 14 to Day 15,OKAVANGO DELTA

We transfer into the Okavango Delta, usually by boat, an incredible maze of inland waterways and lagoons and a haven for wildlife and birds. Our camp is located deep in the delta and we have the option of taking game walks and mokoro safaris. (BLD)

Day 16,NATA

Return to Maun and continue east towards Nata. The birdlife in this area is particularly spectacular, and depending on the season we may have the opportunity to take an excursion to see the enormous flocks of flamingoes on the Magkadikgadi Pans. (B)

Day 17,CHOBE NATIONAL PARK

Continue north to Kasane and our lodge on the banks of the Chobe River. The fabulous Chobe N.P. is famous for its huge herds of elephant and we have a guided sunset river cruise which should provide excellent sightings of elephant, hippo, crocodile and an impressive array of birds and plains game. Day 18 to Day 19,VICTORIA FALLS

A few hours at leisure in the morning for an optional game drive in Chobe National Park. Later we drive to the spectacular Victoria Falls - one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Free time to explore; take a sundowner cruise or enjoy a wealth of other adventure activities. (B) Due to UK Foreign Office advice all 2008 tours visiting Victoria Falls will now end in Livingstone, Zambia.  Please speak with your travel agent about onward flights.
