Itineraries

Day 1,DAR ES SALAAM

Arrive and transfer to the hotel.

Day 2,SELOUS GAME RESERVE

Travel to the Selous Game Reserve, an untrammelled tract of wilderness which is the largest reserve in Africa. (BLD)

Day 3 to Day 5,SELOUS GAME RESERVE

Three days spent exploring the reserve. We enjoy a boat safari on the Rufiji River, a vast network of swamps, lagoons and channels which harbours an incredible array of birdlife, and hope to spot various game species drinking from the shore. We visit the Maji Moto hot springs, take game drives and also enjoy a walking safari. Our chances of spotting lion, leopard, cheetah, buffalo, elephant and antelope are excellent. The reserve is also home to large numbers of the endangered wild dog, which we may see if we are lucky. (BLD)

Day 6 to Day 7,ZANZIBAR

Leaving the Selous behind we fly to the ‘Spice Island’ of Zanzibar in the Indian Ocean, known in previous days for its trade in slaves. Transfer to our hotel in the historic and hugely atmospheric capital Stone Town. Free time to explore. Wander the streets looking for evidence of Zanzibar’s illustrious history, explore nearby ruins or watch the sun set over the ocean from one of the beachside bars and restaurants. (B)

Day 8 to Day 9,ZANZIBAR

Leaving Stone Town, we head to Zanzibar’s fantastic beaches. Your time here is free to relax or take advantage of the many optional excursions available, from dolphin watching to snorkelling. (B)

Day 10,DAR ES SALAAM

Take the ferry back to Dar es Salaam where the tour ends on arrival. (B)
