Intro

Gasp at the most spectacular natural wonder of them all, Victoria Falls - \'Mosi-oa-Tunya\' or \'The Smoke that Thunders\'. Float gently along the upper Zambezi watching the animals come to drink. A whole world away we discover the mysterious Okavango Delta in Botswana and the vast horizons of Namibia and the Namib Desert, said to be one of the oldest deserts in the world. The picturesque city of Cape Town is where we end this epic trip.

Itineraries

Day 1,VICTORIA FALLS

Arrival day.  The spectacular Victoria Falls is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Explore at your leisure; take a ‘sundowner’ cruise or enjoy a wealth of other adventure activities.  

Day 2,VICTORIA FALLS

A full day in which to explore the area, and maybe indulge in an elephant back safari or a more adventurous trip on the River Zambezi (B)  

Day 3,CHOBE NATIONAL PARK

Departing Victoria Falls we head for Botswana and our first border crossing. A short drive to Kasane to our camp situated right on the banks of the Chobe River. Chobe National Park is home to the largest herds of elephant in Africa. In the afternoon we will take a guided river cruise with game viewing. (BL)

Day 4,MAUN

A long day as we travel through Botswana and on to the little town of Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta. (BLD)

Day 5 to Day 6,OKAVANGO DELTA

The Okavango Delta is an incredible maze of inland waterways and lagoons. We'll be on safari 'mokoro' style, poled gently along in dugout canoes hewn from logs, through this haven of wildlife and birds. You will be taken on game walks by your guides to experience the full splendour of the region. Overnight in wild camps. (BLD)

Day 7,MAUN

After breakfast we are poled back to our vehicle and transfer to our camp in Maun. (BL)

Day 8,GOBABIS

Cross the border into Namibia. We stay near Gobabis on a private game farm, dedicated to the protection of big cats. We should have excellent opportunities for seeing leopard and cheetah up close. (BL)

Day 9,WATERBERG PLATEAU NATIONAL PARK

Travel to the Waterberg Plateau National Park. Historically significant because it was the site of the war between the Germans and the Hereros, the area has now become a haven for many endangered species and renowned for its incredible rock formations and walks. We have time to explore the reserve and take a short hike up the plateau. (BLD)

Day 10 to Day 11,ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK

Etosha National Park is Namibia's premier game park. Dominated by shimmering white saltpans you have a chance to see elephant as well as black rhino, lion and leopard. We enjoy 3 game drives whilst at Etosha. (Day 10 – BLD, Day  11 - BL)

Day 12 to Day 13,SWAKOPMUND

We spend two nights in Swakopmund, a delightful Bavarian-style town, situated snugly between sea and desert. There are plenty of activities to keep you occupied here, from deep sea fishing to sky-diving, or perhaps exploring the desert on quad bikes. (Day 12 – BL, Day 13 – B)

Day 14 to Day 15,NAMIB NAUKLUFT NATIONAL PARK

Continue to The Namib Naukluft National Park and the giant sand dunes of Sossusvlei. This is one of the world's oldest deserts, offering over 130 million years of natural wonder, and the highest sand dunes in the world.  On day 15 we rise early to   climb the dunes for an unforgettable view,  after which we proceed on to Sossusvlei and take a 5km walk to the vlei and back.  Please note that an optional tour can be booked with a local guide to show you the secrets of the desert - this costs R275 and can be arranged by your tour leader. Day 16,FISH RIVER CANYON

We head for the awesome Fish River Canyon where there is the chance to take in a beautiful sunset over the canyon or take an optional hike along the canyon rim. (BL)

Day 17,GARIEP RIVER (formerly Orange River)

Cross the border into South Africa and head for our camp on the riverbank. (BLD)

Day 18,CITRUSDAL

Cross the border into South Africa and drive to Citrusdal, where we can take short hikes or swim in the hot springs. (BL)

Day 19,CAPE TOWN

Our last stop is Cape Town. Sample the sights and sounds of this magical city at the southern end of the African continent. (B)

Day 20,CAPE TOWN

Tour ends. (B)
