3 weeks: Broome to Broome (VKE300407)

Western Australia's Kimberley Ranges are some of the most scenic, colourful, photogenic and above all remote locations in Australia, and the World.

Departing from Broome, Western Australia (accessible by regular commercial jet flights), this tour provides a full exploration of some of it's most beautiful and remote areas, and allows a full immersion experience in the gorges, rock art, geological formations, indigenous history, european history, rivers and coasts of this wonderful are.

The season for access to the Kimberley is limited - you want enough water, but not too much; you want warm days not devastatingly hot; you want pleasant evenings not mosquito driven fever. This tour is only run once a year - book in now or miss out.


Accommodation

A mix of bush camping, camping with facilities (bathrooms), and shared unit accommodation with bathrooms (about 1/3rd each).

Kitty Notes

Only local payments are for air flights, helicopter flights, canoe rental, etcetera and contribution to any alcohol kitty agreed. All other costs covered.

Itineraries

Day 1-2

Broome to Cape Leveque
Cape Leveque - it is intended to incorporate aboriginal cultural Experience, snorkelling, and optional (add-on) flight over
Buccaneer Archipelago/ Horizontal waterfalls. Sunrise/sunset
opportunities on both sides of the Cape. The old churches of the missions on the Cape.

Day 3

Derby
Derby is really a stop along the way - more tourist stop than great photography particularly

Days 4

To Gibb River Road, Windjana Gorge and Tunnel Creek
Short walks, Bandigan Rock, Freshwater Crocodiles, Fruit Bats and flying foxes, gorge reflections in the water in the late afternoon, The Savannah, fossils. Tunnel Creek, caves,bats maybe
good to catch them leaving at dusk, cave structures, flowstones,colour etcetera.
Optional 7 km walk through W.G.

Days 5

Mt Hart Wilderness Lodge
King Leopold Range, Mt Mathew Gorge for early morning - Reflections or birdlife, Pandanus and Boabs - Yellowman Gorge, Old Cattle Yards and ruins. Bamboo reflections in the River,
Bell Gorge or Lennard Gorge or both depending on time.
Sunset on \"sunset hill\".

Days 6-7

MORNINGTON WILDERNESS CAMP Sunset at Sir John Gorge. Canoeing or other activity in Dimond Gorge, Visit Fitzroy Bluff - sunrise? Option of guided type Educational content on the AWC activities and scientific work as well as exploration of the area. Pools for sunrise/sunset.
Galvans Gorge Walk?

Day 8

MOUNT ELIZABETH STATION
Stop off in Mt Barnett on the way.
Working Cattle Station - horse and cattle activity.
Rock Art - potential for aboriginal guides

Days 9

DRYSDALE RIVER STATION
Camping - probably Miner\'s Pool or Homestead Camp if time does not permit.

Days 10-13

MITCHELL PLATEAU / KALUMBURU
Mitchell Falls including (various levels) walks.
Optional Helicopter experience.
Aunauyu - Surveyors Pool, Litte Mertens, Big Mertens Falls
Paintings and engravings
Kalumburu - mission, pool, museum

Day 14

HOME VALLEY STATION
Indigenous Guided tour - sunset on Cockburn Range
Optional Horse Riding Experience or Guided Birdwatching.
Bindoola Creek / Pentecost River sunset/sunrise

Days 15-16

EL QUESTRO WILDERNESS PARK
Chamberlain Gorge, Zebedee Springs Thermal Pools, Butterflies,
Mirimiri falls, Optional Bush Tucker Tour, early morning walk
To Amalia Gorge, El Questro Gorge, Emma Gorge, Moonshine Gorge

Day 17

KUNUNURRA
Emphasis on Lake Argyle - perhaps wetlands time permitting

Days 18-19

BUNGLE BUNGLES
Piccaninny Gorge, Echidna Chasm, Rock Domes, Walks, Termite
Mounds, Cathedral Gorge Boab Trees, Optional Helicopter or
flight.

Day 20

TO FITZROY CROSSING
Brief stop in Halls Creek

Day 21

Return to Broome
