Ruka - Multi Active Snow Business - Skiing Trip
1 week: UK to Finland (RK)
Multi Active Snow BusinessRuka and Kuusamo are the ideal destinations for combining Nordic activities with skiing and snowboarding. You can drive a snowmobile across frozen lakes and snowy plains during the day and then take to the floodlit pistes in the evening. For easy access to the ski slopes try the Hotel Rantasipi Rukahovi (just 50 metres from the ski centre and lift). For a more relaxing option with spa facilities and a swimming pool why not try the Kuusamon Tropiikki? Quite simply the best of both worlds!
Accommodation
Hotel Rantasipi Rukahovi
The ideal choice for combining Nordic & Alpine activities.
The Rantisipi Rukahovi is probably Finland’s best ski-in/ski-out hotel and enjoys a fabulous location in Ruka’s main square. The hotel has 180 rooms in total, all of which have en-suite shower rooms, air-conditioning, TV, mini-bar, pay per view video channel, hair dryer and clothes drying cupboards. The hotel has two restaurants serving international cuisine but with local produce very much to the fore. Evening entertainment includes live music and dancing. Itineraries
SundayFlights, Arrival and Introduction
On arrival at Kuusamo Airport you will be met by our representative and transferred to the Rantasipi Rukahovi Hotel. After settling in, a welcome drink and dinner await.
Ice Fishing and Snowshoeing
You will be driven to the lake where your hosts will tell you about the local fishing traditions. They will help you drill through the ice, so you can try catching dinner in the time-honoured fashion. If you are really lucky and land a decent sized fish, you can cook it over an open fire in a Lappish hut. Approximately 3 to 4 hours.
This afternoon you will be introduced to the snowy landscapes which surround Ruka. With snowshoes strapped to your feet you can walk easily across the deepest snow. Your guide will point out animal tracks and other points of interest. Approximately 2 hours.
Wilderness Snowmobile Safari
A full day snowmobile safari takes you across rugged fells and through narrow valleys. Your guide will prepare a typically Lappish lunch over an open fire. After your meal and a warm drink, your safari heads into the forest where the trails become more technical. Watch out for herds of reindeer and other animals foraging for food in the snow. Routes may vary depending on the weather. Approximately 5 to 6 hrs.
Cross-Country Skiing
Your guide will teach you the important skills including how to stop and fall down safely! Once you have mastered the fundamentals, he or she will take you on a short trip to show you how to go up and down the hills. Approximately a 2 hour trip but you retain the use of your cross-country skiing equipment for the rest of the day so you can explore the numerous trails around Ruka.
Husky Safari
For many, the husky safari is the high point of a trip to Scandinavia. You will be driven from the hotel to the husky farm where the dogs will be barking in anticipation of being on safari. After instruction on how to control your sled you ride in pairs (musher and passenger) across the snow-covered terrain pulled by the ever-enthusiastic huskies. Approximately 3 hours in duration but the distance covered may vary subject to local conditions.
Snowmobiling to a Reindeer Farm
You jump back on the snowmobiles this morning to speed across frozen waterways and through snow covered forests to visit a reindeer farm. Once there you take a short sleigh ride and receive your Reindeer Driving Licence before rejoining the snowmobile trails and heading back to Ruka.
Depart or Extend your stay
All good things must come to an end and after breakfast you will be transferred back to the airport in good time for your homeward flight.
Alternatively we can arrange for you to extend your stay
in Lapland.
