Kuusamo - Snow Business - Snowmobiling Trip
1 week: UK to Finland (KS)
Snow BusinessRuka and Kuusamo are the ideal destinations for combining Nordic activities with downhill skiing and snowboarding.
You can drive a snowmobile across frozen lakes and snowy plains during the day and then take to the ski slopes until 7.00pm almost every evening. For easy access to the ski slopes try the Hotel Rantasipi Rukahovi or, for a more child friendly option, we recommend the Kuusamon Tropiikki.

Itineraries
SundayFlights, Arrival and Introduction
On arrival at Kuusamo Airport you will be met by our representative and taken to your vehicle for the transfer to your accommodation at the Kuusamon Tropiikki Hotel. After settling in a welcome drink and dinner await.
Snow Fun and Snowshoeing
This morning is spent trying out various winter sports including tobogganing, snowshoeing and a short snowmobile-pulled sleigh ride. Approximately 1.5 hours.
This afternoon you will be introduced to the snowy landscapes which surround Ruka. With snowshoes strapped to your feet you can walk easily across the deepest snow. Approximately 2 hours.
Snowmobile and Starlight Safari
There is no better way of getting to know a snow covered area than on a snowmobile. You will receive full instructions and a safety briefing before exploring the trails around Ruka. Approximately 2 hours.
We have left the afternoon free as the cold can be very tiring and you may wish to take advantage of the facilities at the hotel or try downhill skiing at Ruka.
As night falls, you venture out in a snowmobile-pulled sleigh in search of the Aurora Borealis. Away from any light pollution the chances of seeing a spectacular display are greatly enhanced. Approximately 1 hour.
Cross-Country Skiing
Your guide will teach you the important skills including how to stop and fall down safely! Having mastered the basics, you try a short trip demonstrating how to go up and down the hills. Approximately 2 hours duration but you retain the cross-country skiing equipment for the rest of the day to explore the trails around Ruka and Kuusamo.
Husky Safari
This afternoon brings what for many is the highlight of the holiday. You will be driven to the husky farm where the dogs will be barking in anticipation of being on safari. After instruction on how to control your sled you ride across the snow-covered terrain pulled by the ever-enthusiastic huskies. Approximately 3 hours but distance covered may vary subject to local conditions.
Snowmobiling to a Reindeer farm
You jump back on the snowmobiles this morning to speed across frozen water and through snow-covered forests to visit a reindeer farm. Once there you take a short sleigh ride and receive your Reindeer Driving Licence. Approximately 3 hours.
Santa or Ice Fishing
Santa’s Winter Cottage
Santa lives in a beautiful lakeside cottage. We organise tobogganing on the snowy slopes before going indoors to meet Santa and his helpers. You will bake gingerbread and sweet buns and make cards before every child gets
to chat with Santa and receive a small gift from their hero. Approximately 2.5 hrs.
Ice Fishing
If you are a bit too old to believe in Santa (shame!) then you will be driven to the lake where your hosts will tell you about the local fishing traditions. They will help you drill through the ice in order to try catching dinner in the
time-honoured fashion. If you are really lucky and catch
a decent sized fish, you can cook it over an open fire in a Lappish hut. Approximately 3 to 4 hours.
Departures, Transfers and Flights
Return to the airport for your homeward flights.
