Harriniva - Lapland Snowmobile Safari (Adult Trip) - Snowmobiling Trip
0 ½ weeks: UK to Finland (LM)
Lapland Snowmobile SafariQuite simply, we love this place and judging by the feedback, so do our clients. Situated 230kms north of the Arctic Circle, this wilderness hotel combines Scandinavian style accommodation, the warmest of welcomes and a great range of winter activities and wilderness safaris. Located on the banks of the Muonio River (cross it when it’s frozen and you find yourself in Sweden) the hotel’s unforgettable safari programmes will take you into the very heart of Lapland’s winter wilderness.
Accommodation
The Hotel
Situated 230kms north of the Arctic Circle this family hotel has 64 Scandinavian style en-suite bedrooms. Most of the rooms accommodate 2 or 3 people but there are some larger bedrooms suitable for small groups.
The hotel has 3 cosy dining rooms including one with a log fire, and a recently built pub, ideal for those pre-dinner aperitifs. Naturally, this being Finland, there are two large shared saunas within the main building.
For a bit of pampering, the Aurora Wellness Centre offers therapies such as massages, dry cupping, peat treatments and a variety of facials. On the riverbank there are 2 hot jacuzzis, 2 steam baths, an ice hole (for the very brave!) and a relaxation room.
Safari Houses and Cabins
On our husky and snowmobile safaris you spend some nights in shared safari houses or cabins close to the main building. Naturally, you will have access to all the hotel’s facilities. Each safari house has its own shower, toilet and sauna and provides the perfect place to bond with your fellow adventurers before setting off into the wilderness on your safari. You will eat all your meals in one of the main building’s restaurants.
Wilderness Cabins
On our wilderness safaris you will spend some nights in a wilderness cabin or cabins. Generally speaking the cabins are rather basic (no electricity or running water) but comfortable and cosy, especially once dinner is cooking over the open fire. The cabins are usually so remote that there is little or no light pollution, creating the best possible chance of seeing the Aurora Borealis.
Itineraries
SundayFlights, Arrival and Introduction
You will be transferred to the Wilderness Centre where you will meet your guide for an introductory dinner. Overnight in a comfortable shared safari house.
Snowmobile Safari
You will be provided with all your equipment including thermal overalls, boots, socks, mittens, helmet and expedition grade sleeping bag. Your guides will provide a safety briefing and comprehensive instruction on how to handle and get the most from your snowmobile.
The safari covers distances of between 80 and 100kms every day and takes you into some of the wildest areas of Fell Lapland.
An extensive network of carefully managed snowmobile trails covers the entire region including lake and river crossings, forests and fells. Each day will provide new and exciting challenges, from negotiating the more technical forest trails to going full throttle across frozen lakes.
Accommodation “on the trail” is in simple wilderness cabins but you can relax in some style as they generally have saunas.
During the afternoon of day four you arrive back at the Wilderness Centre for a delicious farewell meal.
Departure, Transfers and Flights
After breakfast you will be transferred to Kittila Airport for your return flights home. Alternatively, we can arrange for you to extend your stay in Lapland and try other winter activities such as husky and reindeer safaris, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
